The idOBR is an upgrade of Cobham’s existing on-board repeater and is designed to offer high-bandwidth in-carriage services for the railway communications market enabling passengers to connect to 4G, 3G and 2G services.
The UK-based wireless infrastructure supplier Cobham Wireless has announced the launch of its idOBR solution; the next generation digital on-board repeater set to revolutionise on-train cellular communications.
Cobham Wireless has been pushing forward the development of advanced systems since introducing the world’s first GSM-R coverage product in 1998 to support train communications on intercity lines in Scandinavia.
Offering MIMO, multi-technology and multi-band support, the idOBR is said to enable high quality communication across international borders, connecting to the Cobham Wireless range of cellular coverage solutions.
A digital on-board repeater from Cobham Wireless is said, by the company, to offer high-bandwidth in-carriage services for the railway communications market, enabling passengers to connect to 4G, 3G and 2G services in the most challenging of environments.
The idOBR can support up to four different bands on one repeater rack and there is the option to add additional racks to support more bands and/or MiMo, allowing operators to scale their setup based on their performance requirements.
The unit has been reduced in size to 2HU, offers multi-technology and multi-band support for six bands, and connects seamlessly with Cobham Wireless’ range of cellular coverage products, including its idDAS system.
