The low-down on in-building solutions for public safety

Not-spot coverage has been an increasing priority for mobile network operators globally, and there is a range of technological approaches to choose from when looking for a solution to this challenge. The public safety community is also affected by the same not-spot issue, with lack of coverage making emergency scenarios even tougher…and with lives potentially at stake, this coverage problem needs to be resolved.

The world of small cells has been shrouded in controversy for a while now as the industry continues to ask how the term should actually be defined. The article considers the different definitions of ‘small cells’ – from DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) to Femtocells – and looks at the implications for deploying such communications systems in a public safety environment.
